India Post reported a 25% year-on-year revenue growth for the second quarter (Q2) of FY27, reaching ₹4,202 crore, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Thursday. The growth was primarily propelled by a massive 71% surge in parcel business revenues. This marks the second consecutive quarter in which the department’s revenue crossed the ₹4,000 crore threshold.

    Key Financial Highlights

    • Quarterly Revenue: Rose to ₹4,202 crore in Q2 (September quarter), up from ₹3,355 crore in the corresponding period last year.

    • First Half (H1) Growth: Total revenue for the first six months of the financial year increased by nearly 24% to ₹8,213 crore, compared to approximately ₹6,500 crore in the prior year.

    • Expenditure Coverage Ratio: The department’s cost-coverage ratio (excluding pensions) improved by 8 percentage points, rising to 62% from 54% a year earlier.

    Segment-Wise Performance

    Business Segment YoY Growth Rate
    Parcel Business ⬆️ 71%
    Postal & Rural Life Insurance (PLI/RPLI) ⬆️ 44%
    International Relations & Global Business (IR&GB) ⬆️ 38%

    Strategic Directives from Minister Scindia

Addressing Chief Postmaster Generals (CPGMs), Minister Scindia urged regional leadership to adopt a proactive, business-oriented approach:

    • Leadership Mindset: Urged CPGMs to act like “CEOs of independent businesses” and identify region-specific growth opportunities.

    • Customer Acquisition & Retention: Emphasized building stronger commercial partnerships across both government and private-sector clients.

    • Cross-Selling & Analytics: Called for greater cross-selling across mail, parcel, and insurance offerings by utilizing customer data analytics to deepen engagement.

    • Accelerated Digitization: Directed leadership to set clear, measurable targets for digital expansion through platforms such as Dak Seva and Dak Mitra.
