Following its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, 2026, the Noida International Airport (IATA: DXN) at Jewar is set to redefine the passenger experience in India. Designed to be a “smart” and “net-zero” hub, the airport integrates advanced Swiss and German technologies to ensure a seamless, paperless journey.

While the facility is now physically open, commercial flights are expected to commence in mid-April to May 2026, starting with domestic carriers like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express.

The Technology Suite: Your Journey at NIA

Feature Technology & Partner Benefit for Passengers
Check-in DigiYatra (Biometric) Your face is your boarding pass; entry-to-gate in <10 mins.
Baggage Handling VarioTray (Siemens) High-speed trays (10m/s) reduce lost luggage risk to near zero.
Connectivity 5G Neutral Host Seamless, high-speed data for Jio, Airtel, and Vi users.
Navigation Indoor Wayfinding Real-time smartphone guidance to gates, lounges, or shops.
Security AI-Managed Flows Sensors monitor “heat maps” to open new lanes during congestion.
Parking Contactless & EV-Ready Sensor-based spot finding and UPI payments; extensive EV chargers.

    Key Highlights of Phase 1

    1. The Biometric Fast Track

NIA is the first Indian airport to make DigiYatra its operational foundation. By using facial recognition at every checkpoint—from terminal entry to the boarding gate—passengers can keep their phones and IDs in their pockets throughout the process.

    2. “Zero-Wait” Baggage System

The underground VarioTray conveyor system ensures that luggage moves as fast as the passengers. Using BagIQ software, the system coordinates the routing of every bag with live security status, often delivering bags to the arrival carousel before the passenger even reaches it.

    3. Operational Resilience: Fog-Proof Flying

To avoid the notorious winter delays typical of the NCR, NIA is equipped with CAT IIIb Instrument Landing Systems. This allows aircraft to land in near-zero visibility, ensuring the airport remains functional even during heavy fog.

    4. Sustainable Connectivity

    • Net-Zero Mission: The airport aims to be India’s first net-zero emissions airport, supported by extensive solar power and EV infrastructure.

    • Last-Mile Access: Direct links to the Yamuna Expressway and planned connectivity to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via a new 31km link road.

    What’s Next for NIA?

While Phase 1 handles 12 million passengers annually, the master plan includes four phases that will eventually scale to 70 million passengers per year with multiple runways and a sprawling “Grand Outlet” retail district.
