Actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi Slams ICICI Lombard Over Denied Health Claim, Likens Demands to “Predicting the Car That Kills You”

Actor and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to publicly call out private insurer ICICI Lombard. The dispute erupted after the company allegedly denied her health insurance claim for a hospital stay caused by severe stomach ulcers.

    The Cause of the Conflict

Krishnamoorthi, who suffered from severe acidity and ulcers, stated that her insurer refused to cover her hospitalization on the grounds that she had failed to declare her ulcer condition when she originally purchased the policy.

The actor strongly countered this decision, explaining that she did not have ulcers at the time the policy was issued. She expressed immense frustration over the company’s demand for medical certificates to prove she did not have a pre-existing condition, writing:

“But i didnt have ulcers at the time of taking the policy and now they are asking for doctors certificates to confirm i didnt have ulcers at the time of taking the policy. Next they will insist on the car number that kills u in advance so ur family can make a claim.”

Disgusted by the ordeal, Krishnamoorthi declared that she no longer cared about the money but intended to “expose the fraud in their operations.”

    Back-and-Forth Over Medical Expertise

The dispute escalated when Krishnamoorthi questioned the clinical judgment and medical credentials of the insurance firm’s in-house medical assessors.

She alleged that the medical officers processing her case were unable to differentiate between basic acidity, stomach ulcers, and a hiatus hernia—treating them as the same pre-existing medical issue.

    • The Criticisms: She called for a legal inquiry into the qualifications of the medical professionals employed by the firm, claiming they “didn’t understand how science or disease works.”

    • Claims of Callousness: Responding to support from users online, the actor claimed that the insurance firm was actively labeling her a “liar” because they were too careless to properly investigate her medical records.

    Response from ICICI Lombard

In public comments on X, ICICI Lombard maintained that they had already replied to the actor’s previous grievance and clarified that they had not received any active, new claim requests regarding the issue. They requested her to share details via private message if she was initiating a fresh appeal.

The company also released an official statement defending its administrative processes:

“ICICI Lombard is committed to upholding the highest standards of governance, transparency, and customer service. Every claim is assessed objectively on its individual merits and in accordance with the applicable policy terms and regulatory guidelines.”
