Godrej Capital, the financial services arm of the Godrej Group, has officially entered the fast-growing gold loan segment by acquiring the gold loan business of Kanakadurga Finance via its subsidiary, Godrej Finance.

While the deal value remains undisclosed, this marks Godrej Capital’s maiden acquisition and serves as a major step toward diversifying its portfolio beyond housing finance and MSME lending.

    Key Transaction & Strategic Metrics

    • AUM & Customer Base Added: Acquires ₹280 crore in assets under management (AUM) and nearly 12,000 customers.

    • Footprint & Operations: Adds 54 operational branches across Andhra Pradesh along with a specialized team of ~250 employees.

    • Long-Term Ambition (Vision 2031): Supports Godrej Capital’s long-term target of building a ₹1 lakh crore AUM franchise and serving over 1 million customers by 2031.

    • Near-Term Targets: Targets reaching ₹38,000 crore AUM by the end of FY27, with plans to go public within the next five years.

    Broader Business Expansion

In addition to expanding into gold loans, Godrej Capital recently launched its wealth management vertical with a ₹1 lakh crore target over five years.

Metric / Focus Area Gold Loan Acquisition Wealth Management Launch
Primary Focus Consumer Finance / Secured Retail Lending High-Net-Worth Wealth Advisory
Geographic Target Andhra Pradesh (54 branches) Initial 8 cities $\rightarrow$ 35 cities over 3 years
Strategic Goal Diversify non-banking financial products Build long-term fee income & advisory assets

Industry Context: The Surge in Gold Loans

Godrej Capital’s entry comes at a time when top non-bank lenders are aggressively entering or expanding their presence in gold financing, spurred by high gold valuations and lower risk profiles.

This acquisition mirrors recent moves by major competitors—such as Tata Capital’s recent acquisition of Kerala-based Yogakshemam Loans (Yogloans)—as institutional lenders race to capture market share in a highly lucrative retail lending segment.

“The acquisition of Kanakadurga Finance’s gold loan business marks an important milestone… as we continue building a larger and more diversified financial services franchise.”

    — Manish Shah, MD & CEO, Godrej Capital
