Data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)—analyzing the Q1 FY27 results of 3,247 listed non-government, non-financial companies—indicates a significant acceleration in Corporate India’s business momentum, led primarily by a rebound in manufacturing.

    Key Financial Highlights

    • Aggregate Sales Growth: Jumped to 19.4% YoY in Q1 FY27, up from 13.9% in the preceding quarter.

    • Manufacturing Rebound: Sales expanded 21.4% YoY (up from 14.5% in Q4 FY26), spearheaded by automobiles, petroleum, and electrical machinery.

    • IT & Services Strength: IT sector sales growth accelerated to 14.8% YoY (up from 9.9%), while non-IT services posted a strong 19.7% YoY growth, anchored by wholesale and retail trade.

    • Margin Expansion & Profitability: Manufacturing operating profit growth surged to 21.3% YoY (vs. 9.4% in the previous quarter). Operating margins improved sequentially across all major sectors.

    • Improved Debt Servicing: The Interest Coverage Ratio (ICR) for manufacturing firms strengthened to 10.2 (up from prior periods), while non-IT services rose to 2.6, driven by gross profit expansion outpacing interest expenses.

    Core Sector Performance Breakdown

Sector Q1 FY27 Sales Growth (YoY) Key Drivers / Remarks
Manufacturing 21.4% Led by auto, petroleum, and electrical machinery; operating profit growth surged to 21.3%.
IT Services 14.8% Broad-based momentum recovery; operating profit grew 19.9% YoY.
Non-IT Services 19.7% Supported by retail and wholesale trade; operating profit grew 12.7% YoY.

    Headwinds & Operational Cost Dynamics

    • Raw Material Inflation: Raw material costs for manufacturing companies surged 27.5% YoY due to lingering global supply-chain friction.

    • Cost Absorption: Improved pricing power and strong top-line leverage helped offset input cost spikes, reducing the raw-material-to-sales ratio slightly to 58.1% (down from 58.5% in Q4 FY26).

    • Outlook: While corporate revenue enters the remainder of FY27 on a resilient footing, maintaining cost discipline and pricing power remains crucial against global commodity volatility.
