JPMorgan Chase & Co. has announced plans to double its business operations at Gujarat’s Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) over the next few years. The strategic push comes on the back of rapid expansion in the bank’s trade finance, foreign exchange, liquidity, and cross-border payment divisions.
Key Highlights of the Expansion:
-
Current Scale: Established in 2022, JPMorgan’s GIFT City branch currently serves a few hundred clients with an active business book close to $1 billion.
-
Core Growth Drivers: According to Max Neukirchen, Global Co-Head of Payments at JPMorgan, the firm is scaling up services across trade finance, working-capital loans, risk management, and liquidity solutions.
-
MNC Treasury Influx: The bank is seeing a major wave of interest from multinational corporations (MNCs)—including insurance and fintech firms—looking to relocate or establish cross-border treasury and payment operations. Over 100 multinationals have approached the bank to explore dedicated corporate treasury setups.
-
Ecosystem Tailwinds: GIFT City’s appeal is bolstered by its ability to offer foreign-currency accounts alongside rupee capabilities, coupled with the hub’s surging financial footprint (banking assets at the IFSC crossed $111 billion as of March 2026).
The planned expansion highlights JPMorgan’s deepening commitment to India’s financial infrastructure, running parallel to the bank’s broader regional growth strategy across Asia.
