Airtel Money, the sub-Saharan Africa-focused mobile financial services arm of Airtel Africa, has officially started trading on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), marking the exchange’s largest initial public offering (IPO) in several years.

Key Highlights of the IPO & Listing

    • Funds Raised & Valuation: The secondary share offering raised approximately $703 million (£529 million) by selling 270 million shares at a fixed price of £1.96 per share, securing an implied market capitalization of roughly $7 billion (£5.3 billion).

    • Muted Initial Trading: Despite strong institutional demand that left the offering multiple times oversubscribed, shares experienced a soft launch. After briefly ticking up to £2.00 during early conditional trading, the stock eased slightly to hover between £1.93 and £1.94, just below its initial issue price.

    • Corporate Structure: Airtel Africa remains the core strategic and majority shareholder, while Indian parent conglomerate Bharti Enterprises retains an effective indirect economic interest of roughly 61.6%.

    • Scale of Operations: Operating across 13 sub-Saharan African markets (including Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi), Airtel Money processed over $213 billion in transactions over the trailing 12 months, posting revenues of $1.35 billion and a profit of $373 million in FY26.

    • Trading Timeline: Conditional trading commenced on Friday, October 9, 2026, with unconditional, full public trading scheduled to begin on October 14, 2026.

    Strategic Significance for the LSE

The listing serves as a major milestone for the London Stock Exchange, which has worked to reform and simplify its listing rules to attract high-growth international tech and fintech companies. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, emphasized that London remains an attractive destination for long-term, patient capital looking to tap into dynamic emerging markets—echoing the successful 2019 London debut of Airtel Africa itself.
