Apple has officially announced the HomePod mini 2, marking the first hardware refresh for its compact smart speaker since its 2020 debut. Priced at ₹18,900 in India, the upgraded speaker introduces the S10 chip, dynamic Sound Glow lighting, expanded smart home functionality, and future support for Siri AI.
What’s New in HomePod mini 2
-
Upgraded S10 Chip: Powers real-time computational audio tuning, optimizing dynamic range, loudness, and acoustics on the fly.
-
Sound Glow Lighting: The top surface now features reactive lighting that pulses in sync with the bass and treble of music, or displays ambient lighting for soundscapes like rain.
-
Siri AI Integration (Upcoming Update): Through a future tvOS/audioOS software update, the speaker will gain conversational Siri capabilities powered by Apple Intelligence. When connected with an Apple Intelligence–enabled iPhone/iPad, it can access cross-app context (e.g., “Play the song sent in my messages”).
-
Multi-User Voice Recognition: Recognizes up to six individual family members by voice to offer personalized music, schedules, and notifications.
-
Expanded Home Audio Setup: Supports stereo pairing, multi-room sync, and integration as part of a 4-speaker surround sound setup with the new Apple TV 4K.
-
Smart Home & Safety Hub: Works as a hub for Matter/Apple Home gear and includes Sound Recognition to detect smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and alert your iPhone.
