Flash Sports & Media Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLZH) has appointed veteran sports and media executive Rahul Johri to its Board of Directors. The strategic hiring aligns with the company’s ongoing transition into a dedicated, cricket-focused sports entertainment platform targeting international league expansion, broadcasting rights, and franchise development.
Johri, an industry veteran with nearly 35 years of experience, is best known as the first-ever Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). During his tenure, he managed all domestic and international cricket operations, spearheaded the growth of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and successfully oversaw the historic sale of BCCI media rights for more than $3 billion—a transaction that pioneered the use of transparent e-auctions in cricket.
Strategic Goals for Flash Sports
By securing Johri’s leadership, Flash Sports aims to leverage his extensive network and commercial expertise to scale its cricket footprint.
-
Monetization and Sponsorships: Johri will directly guide the company’s approach to bidding for high-value digital and broadcasting media rights, alongside structuring franchise sponsorships.
-
League & Franchise Expansion: His experience will support the company’s growing competitive cricket portfolio, which recently expanded through the acquisition of the Galle Gallants franchise in the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
-
Broad Media Background: Beyond cricket administration, Johri previously served as President of Business at Zee Entertainment Enterprises and led Discovery Networks across South and Southeast Asia. He currently heads Citadel Advisory, a specialized sports and media consultancy operating across India and the UAE.
Aligning Ambitions with Corporate Shift
The high-profile board appointment signals aggressive global intent from Flash Sports & Media. The company recently pivoted its core business model toward Twenty20 (T20) cricket entertainment following a merger with urban-gro, Inc., trading under the new Nasdaq ticker symbol FLZH.
Welcoming the appointment, Flash Sports Chairman and CEO Bradley Natrass stated, “Few executives in the world have his combination of commercial vision, credibility with rights holders and broadcasters, and hands-on experience building the properties that define the modern game.”
Commenting on the move, Johri highlighted that cricket is entering its most lucrative commercial era. “With new leagues, new markets, and new audiences reshaping the global game,” Johri said, “Flash Sports & Media has assembled a compelling platform at exactly the right moment.”
