Internal reports from March 28, 2026, reveal that Google has deployed a sophisticated autonomous AI agent codenamed “Agent Smith.” Far from being a movie villain, this “secret agent” is designed to liberate employees from their desks by managing complex workflows and routine management tasks entirely in the background.

The Mechanics of “Work From Phone” (WFP)

The primary goal of Agent Smith is to enable a “Work From Phone” lifestyle for Google’s massive workforce.

    • Autonomous Execution: Unlike standard AI assistants, Agent Smith doesn’t just answer questions; it executes tasks. It can pull documents, cross-reference data, and manage internal resources across various Google platforms without human input.

    • Mobile Monitoring: Employees can delegate a multi-step project and then leave their desks. They monitor progress, receive status updates, and issue new instructions directly from their smartphones.

    • Built on “Antigravity”: This new tool is a massive leap over Google’s previous internal automation platform, offering significantly more autonomy and deeper system integration.

    A “Superhit” Internal Launch

The adoption of the tool has been so aggressive that it reportedly caused significant technical strain within the company.

    • Server Overload: Demand for Agent Smith was so high immediately after its release that Google had to temporarily restrict access to manage server loads.

    • Efficiency Gains: Google engineers report that routine tasks are now completing significantly faster, allowing them to focus on high-value creative work and system architecture.

    The “AI-First” Corporate Mandate

The deployment of Agent Smith is part of a broader, more firm push toward AI integration led by Google’s top brass.

    • Performance Reviews: CEO Sundar Pichai has reportedly signaled that the use of AI tools like Agent Smith will be a factor in performance reviews, even for non-technical staff.

    • Sergey Brin’s Vision: In a recent town hall, co-founder Sergey Brin highlighted that autonomous agents are the cornerstone of Google’s 2026 strategy.

    • Voluntary Exit Program: Google has reminded employees of voluntary exit options for those who find themselves misaligned with this rapid, AI-first transformation.

    Official Stance

While the tool is a “superhit” internally, Google remains tight-lipped. A spokesperson stated:

“We are always experimenting with new ways to build agents that solve real-world problems for people and businesses, but we don’t have anything to share right now.”
