With the Puducherry Legislative Assembly elections fast approaching, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a direct outreach program to mobilize the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) cadre. Highlighting the achievements of the “double-engine” government, the PM expressed strong confidence in an NDA comeback.

The Outreach: “Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot”

PM Modi is scheduled to interact with booth-level workers across the Union Territory on March 30, 2026, at 5:30 PM.

    • Platform: The interaction will take place via the NaMo App.

    • Objective: To engage directly with BJP-NDA karyakartas (workers), strengthen the organizational structure at the grassroots level, and share ideas for the UT’s development.

    • PM’s Quote: “Over the last 5 years, the double-engine NDA Government has fulfilled the aspirations of the people of Puducherry. That is why the people of Puducherry are going to bless NDA yet again.”

    Election Schedule & Logistics

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finalized the roadmap for the 30-member assembly:

    • Polling Date: April 9, 2026.

    • Counting Date: May 4, 2026.

    • Assembly Term Expiry: June 15, 2026.

The Political Battlefield: Coalitions & Seat Sharing

The 2026 election is a three-way contest involving established alliances and a new major entrant.

    1. The NDA (Ruling Alliance)

The ruling coalition has finalized its seat-sharing formula to avoid internal friction:

    • AINRC: 16 seats (Lead partner)

    • BJP: 10 seats

    • AIADMK: 2 seats

    • LJK: 2 seats

    2. The I.N.D.I.A. / Congress-DMK Alliance

The opposition alliance is looking to reclaim the majority it held in 2016:

    • Congress: 16 seats

    • DMK: 14 seats

(Note: Senior leader AV Subramanian resigned from the Congress today, citing “private reasons” following the release of this candidate list.)

    3. The New Entrant: TVK

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has entered the fray for the first time, fielding candidates in all 30 constituencies, potentially acting as a significant spoiler for the traditional Dravidian and National parties.
