India’s IT Sector Set for Another Muted Quarter as Pricing Pressures and Geopolitical Headwinds Weigh on Growth

India’s technology sector is bracing for another subdued financial period, with upcoming second-quarter earnings expected to reflect continued sluggishness. According to a recent institutional report by Systematix Institutional Equities, a combination of intense pricing pressure, aggressive competitive bidding, and ongoing geopolitical headwinds will keep revenue expansion constrained across the board.

    Key Highlights:

    • Modest Growth for Tier-I Firms: Large-cap IT companies are projected to post muted organic quarter-on-quarter constant currency revenue growth ranging between -1.5% and 2.0% for Q2FY27.

    • Mid-Caps Outperforming: While major players face volume constraints, mid-cap IT firms are anticipated to continue outperforming their larger counterparts.

    • AI-Led Pricing Pressures: Clients are increasingly demanding a share of the cost efficiencies generated by artificial intelligence, leading to harsher contract pricing and competitive bidding during renewals.

    • Mixed Sector Demand: While pockets of growth persist within banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI), manufacturing, and healthcare—alongside easing client-specific bottlenecks—these gains are largely offset by broad-based weakness in other verticals.

    • Margin Dynamics and Valuation: Although modest quarter-on-quarter margin improvements are expected at large IT firms (aided by cost efficiencies and currency tailwinds), profitability remains challenged by rising investment needs. Despite these operational hurdles, a heavy 30% drop in the Nifty IT index over the past year has pushed valuations to multi-year lows, making free-cash-flow yields increasingly attractive for long-term investors.
