Maas Group Shares Plunge After Nvidia-Backed Firmus Scraps $5 Billion IPO

Shares of Australia’s Maas Group suffered a steep decline, extending losses after artificial intelligence data center operator Firmus—in which Maas holds a stake—officially scrapped its massive $5 billion initial public offering.

Firmus Shelves Blockbuster Listing Amid Weak Demand

Firmus, heavily backed by tech giant Nvidia, pulled the plug on its planned landmark Australian IPO following mounting market volatility and lukewarm institutional demand. Prospective investors raised concerns over the company’s aggressive valuation targets, growing debt pile, and the broader sustainability of funding massive AI infrastructure projects. Rather than pressing forward with the public offering, Firmus announced it would bypass public markets for now and instead pursue private funding to fuel its expansion.

Maas Group Feels the Ripple Effects

The sudden withdrawal dealt a heavy blow to Maas Group, which holds a 3.2% stake in Firmus alongside lucrative commercial contracts for electrical infrastructure and power equipment tied to the data center operator’s projects. Following the news and an initial trading halt, Maas shares plummeted, reflecting investor anxiety over the immediate valuation hit and the potential loss of near-term synergy values linked to the canceled float.

The canceled listing has also sparked broader cautionary sentiments across the market regarding the cooling appetite for mega-cap tech and AI infrastructure listings.
