A bitter and long-running corporate feud between the promoter brothers of GreatWhite Global Private Limited has drawn to a formal conclusion. The family of Mehul Shah has successfully acquired the 50% equity stake held by his brother Hemang Shah, giving Mehul Shah’s side complete operational and managerial ownership of the fast-moving electrical goods (FMEG) manufacturer.
The buyout brings an end to a high-stakes power struggle between the co-promoters that previously involved intense legal proceedings, court-ordered mediation, and regulatory interventions.
Key Highlights of the Settlement
-
Complete Stake Acquisition: Mehul Shah’s family—alongside backing from institutional entities including funds managed by Edelweiss Alternatives (EAAA)—has bought out Hemang Shah’s entire 50% equity holding in GreatWhite Global.
-
Regulatory Approvals Secured: The acquisition plan received official approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI), clearing the path for the ownership transition and restructuring.
-
Dispute Resolution: The settlement closes all pending litigations, including matters previously escalated to the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Supreme Court of India.
-
Full Operational Control: Under the new governance structure, Mehul Shah, Julie Mehul Shah, and Mehul Shah HUF will serve as the continuing primary promoters of the business.
Background: The Anchor Group Legacy
The promoter family traces its roots to the legendary Anchor Group, founded by Jadavji Shah, which dominated India’s electrical switches market for decades before selling its core Anchor brand to Panasonic (then Matsushita Electric Works) in 2007 for around ₹2,000 crore.
Following the non-compete period, the brothers launched GreatWhite Global as a fresh endeavor in the FMEG space, rapidly growing it into a major player across electrical switches, home automation, cables, and lighting. However, divergent strategic visions eventually led to internal governance deadlocks and prolonged litigation over executive control.
Looking Ahead
With the ownership dispute fully resolved, GreatWhite Global is poised to stabilize its corporate governance and accelerate expansion plans in the competitive FMEG sector. The buyout provides the company with a clear unified leadership structure, removing a key operational bottleneck and restoring full market confidence.
