Motorola Edge 70 Pro Plus Review: Solid Hardware Held Back by Software and Cameras

Amid escalating chip costs and market-wide price hikes, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro Plus (priced at ₹47,999) delivers an impressive hardware lineup on paper. It packs a 6.8-inch 144Hz 1.5K quad-curved AMOLED display, a triple 50MP camera system, a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 processor, and a huge 6500mAh battery inside an exceptionally slim 7.19mm body.

While it checks almost every hardware box, software bugs and camera inconsistencies keep it from true flagship greatness.

    Key Specifications

    Specification Details
    Price ₹47,999 (12GB RAM + 256GB Storage)
    Display 6.8-inch Quad-Curved AMOLED, 1.5K (2772 x 1272), 144Hz
    Processor MediaTek Dimensity 8500 (LPDDR5X + UFS 4.1)
    Cameras

    Rear: 50MP Main (Sony IMX882, OIS) + 50MP Ultra-wide + 50MP Periscope (3.5x Optical, OIS)

    Front: 50MP

Battery & Charging 6500mAh, 90W Wired (charger bundled), 15W Wireless
    Build & Weight 190g, 7.19mm thin, IP68 + IP69 rated, MIL-STD-810H certified

Design & Build: Premium and Ergonomic, but Familiar

    • Ergonomics: At just 7.19mm thin and 190g, the curved frame and soft-touch vegan leather back fit comfortably in hand without fatigue.

    • Durability: Features military-grade MIL-STD-810H shock certification alongside IP68 and IP69 ratings for top-tier water and dust resistance.

    • Design Fatigue: The camera module and vegan-leather styling heavily mimic previous Motorola generations, making the design feel repetitive.

    Display, Audio & Haptics

    • Screen: The quad-curved 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED panel is punchy, sharp, and highly legible outdoors under direct sunlight. However, screen protection is tricky—curved glass is fragile and incompatible with standard tempered glass (UV adhesive can damage the display).

    • Audio: Dual stereo speakers deliver rich, balanced mid/high tones with minimal distortion at high volumes.

    • Haptics: Adequate for routine swipes and typing, but lacks the deep, refined tactile feedback found on competing flagships.

    Performance & Battery: Unthrottled Efficiency

    • Performance: The Dimensity 8500 handles sustained gaming remarkably well. In 20-minute tests on demanding titles like Genshin Impact (58.7 avg FPS) and Wuthering Waves (43.2 avg FPS), it outperformed performance-centric rivals with minimal frame drops or thermal throttling.

    • Battery Life: The massive 6500mAh battery easily yields 1.5 to 2 days of moderate use, scoring over 14 hours in PCMark battery endurance tests.

    • Charging: The included 90W charger tops up the cell from 0 to 100% in 53 minutes.

The Downside: Software & Camera Cracks

    Software (Hello UI)

    • Unreliable Moto AI: Features like “Take notes for me” struggle with regional Indian accents, while “Update me” frequently skips day-to-day notifications.

    • Polish & Bloatware: Gesture animations feel occasionally clunky compared to One UI or ColorOS, and the device ships with pre-installed bloatware unexpected at this price tier.

    Camera Performance

    • Main Camera: Captures sharp daylight images but suffers from a cool white balance tint, erratic HDR shadow-lifting, and aggressive low-light noise smoothing.

    • Telephoto Lens: The 3.5x optical zoom provides closer natural color reproduction, though low-light shots still lose fine texture detail.

    • Portrait Mode: Edge detection frequently feathering around subjects, causing uneven, unnatural background blur.

    • Ultra-wide Lens: Strong detail and natural colors, but produces noticeable fisheye edge distortion.

    Verdict

The Motorola Edge 70 Pro Plus delivers superb ergonomics, a vibrant display, reliable battery life, and strong thermals. However, buyers looking for reliable camera processing and refined AI software may find its current state disappointing.

    Pros:

    • Sleek 7.19mm design with IP68/IP69 build

    • Exceptional battery endurance (6500mAh) + 90W fast charger

    • Fluid 144Hz quad-curved AMOLED display

    • Great sustained gaming thermals

    Cons:

    • Repetitive aesthetic design

    • Inconsistent AI features & bloatware

    • Camera processing suffers from edge detection, white balance, and low-light smoothing issues
