Building on its blockbuster debut, SpaceX shares surged by over 14% on Tuesday, propelling the aerospace and AI giant’s market capitalization to a staggering $2.85 trillion and putting it within striking distance of the historic $3 trillion milestone.
The extraordinary rally drove SpaceX’s valuation past e-commerce giant Amazon ($2.64 trillion) and briefly pushed it above software titan Microsoft ($2.92 trillion), solidifying its position among the top five most valuable public companies in the world just days after its initial public offering (IPO).

What is Driving the Momentum?
SpaceX’s meteoric rise is being fueled by a combination of high speculation, strategic expansion, and massive institutional demand:
-
Index Inclusion Tailwinds: The stock is on a fast track to join major indexes. It is scheduled for inclusion in the Nasdaq 100, FTSE Russell (effective June 26), and MSCI (effective June 29). This will trigger forced buying from passive exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds.
-
The “Greenshoe” Boost: Underwriters fully exercised their over-allotment options on Monday, bumping total IPO proceeds to a massive $85.7 billion (up from the initial $75 billion raised last week).
-
Massive Tech Acquisitions: Momentum was further accelerated by SpaceX’s newly announced $60 billion acquisition of software company Anysphere, demonstrating its aggressive push beyond aerospace into deep tech and AI.
A Playground for Speculation
Despite the euphoria, institutional analysts are urging caution. SpaceX recently integrated Elon Musk’s xAI, reporting $18.67 billion in sales last year alongside a net loss of $4.94 billion.
“We can say with certainty that this valuation makes absolutely no sense today,” noted Ipek Ozkardeskaya, senior market analyst at Swissquote Bank. “People are buying SpaceX in the expectation that others will buy too and push the price higher — that’s speculation.”
Because the current available public share float is strictly limited, the massive imbalance between heavy demand and low supply is expected to keep the stock highly volatile in the coming weeks.
