TeraWulf Pivots to AI with Landmark $19 Billion Anthropic Lease

TeraWulf, a company historically focused on Bitcoin mining, has taken a major step in its strategic transition toward artificial intelligence infrastructure. On July 6, 2026, the company announced a 20-year lease agreement with AI developer Anthropic, a deal projected to generate approximately $19 billion in contracted revenue over its lifetime.

    The Deal at a Glance

The agreement centers on a purpose-built AI campus at TeraWulf’s “Justified Data” site in Hawesville, Kentucky. The facility is designed to support 401 megawatts of critical IT load. Development is slated for multiple phases, with the initial capacity expected to come online in the second half of 2027, scaling to full capacity by early 2028.

    Strategic Portfolio Realignment

Alongside the Anthropic lease, TeraWulf is monetizing its previous investments to prioritize projects under its direct ownership and control:

    • Abernathy Exit: TeraWulf is selling its 50.1% stake in the Abernathy Joint Venture—an AI data center project in Texas—to an investor group led by its partner, Fluidstack.

    • Capital Redeployment: The sale allows TeraWulf to recover its ~$450 million investment at a premium, providing fresh capital to expand its wholly-owned AI infrastructure portfolio.

    Market Impact

The announcement triggered a significant positive response from investors, with TeraWulf’s shares (Nasdaq: WULF) climbing over 10% in early trading on the day of the announcement. This movement reflects market confidence in the company’s pivot toward high-demand AI infrastructure, positioning it to capture long-term, recurring revenue from major technology players rather than relying solely on the volatility of cryptocurrency mining.

By securing a long-term commitment from a prominent AI firm like Anthropic, TeraWulf is validating its business model, which leverages existing power and grid connections to meet the massive energy and physical space requirements of modern large language model development.
