India’s flagship digital payment infrastructure, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), set a new benchmark in July 2026, processing a record 23.66 billion transactions valued at ₹29.88 lakh crore (~₹29.9 lakh crore).

According to figures released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the platform registered strong sequential and year-on-year growth, reaffirming its role as the backbone of everyday retail commerce across the nation.

    Key Highlights

    • Record Volume: Transaction volume surged to 23.66 billion in July 2026—a 4.1% month-on-month (MoM) increase over June’s 22.72 billion transactions and surpassing the previous volume record of 23.20 billion set in May 2026.

    • Annual Growth: Year-on-year (YoY), transaction volume grew 22% (up from July 2025), while total transaction value expanded 19% (up from ₹25.08 lakh crore in July 2025).

    • Daily Velocity: On a daily basis, UPI handled an average of 763 million transactions, with a daily settlement value averaging ₹96,383 crore.

    • Everyday Consumer Habit: Industry leaders noted that July’s record performance was achieved without a major festive shopping period, pointing to deep organic adoption across Tier-2, Tier-3, and rural regions.

    Month-on-Month Performance Trend (2026)

Month Transaction Volume (Bn) Transaction Value (₹ Lakh Crore)
    May 2026 23.20 29.90
    June 2026 22.72 28.92
    July 2026 23.66 (All-time high) 29.88

    Expanding Global Footprint

Beyond domestic adoption, UPI has expanded its international footprint to 10 markets, allowing seamless cross-border merchant transactions and remittance linkages:

    • Merchant Payment Corridors: Bhutan, UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Qatar, Cambodia, and the Maldives.

    • Remittance Linkages: Direct real-time corridors with Singapore, Nepal, and Greece for person-to-person (P2P) transfers.

    Related Corporate Development

In tandem with digital payment updates, regulatory actions concerning legacy payment bank entities progressed. The Delhi High Court ordered the official winding-up of Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) following the RBI’s licence revocation earlier this year. The court appointed former State Bank of India (SBI) Chief General Manager Girikumar M. Nair as the official liquidator to supervise the liquidation and settlement process, noting that the entity holds sufficient liquidity to meet all depositor obligations.
