Apple’s MacBook Neo – The New King of “Budget” Laptops

For years, the sub-Rs 70,000 laptop market has been a compromise of flimsy plastic, terrible battery life, and bloated software. With the release of the MacBook Neo, Apple has effectively disrupted the segment, offering a premium experience at a starting price of Rs 69,900.

The Hardware: Premium on a Budget

Despite the lower price point, Apple hasn’t skipped on the build quality.

    • Design: Aluminum unibody construction, weighing just 1.2 kg (lighter than the MacBook Air).

    • Display: A 13-inch Liquid Retina LCD at 500 nits. While it lacks “True Tone,” it is significantly sharper and more vibrant than the matte-plastic panels found on similarly priced Windows machines.

    • Keyboard & Trackpad: Features the signature MacBook “clicky” trackpad and stable keys, though it lacks backlighting—one of the few noticeable cost-cutting measures.

    Performance: The “iPhone Chip” Surprise

The Neo is powered by the A18 Pro chip (last year’s iPhone processor). While it sounds like a mobile-first compromise, the performance tells a different story:

    • Efficiency: It handles daily tasks—web browsing, document editing, and light photo work—with zero lag.

    • The 8GB Limit: With 8GB of unified memory, it remains snappy for standard use but will struggle if you push past 14+ Chrome tabs or attempt heavy video editing.

    • Ecosystem Perks: Full support for macOS 26 Tahoe, including iPhone mirroring, AirDrop, and Universal Clipboard.

    Battery & Charging: A Windows-Killer

The standout feature is longevity. While most Windows laptops in this range struggle to hit the 5-hour mark, the MacBook Neo easily delivers 10 hours of real-world office use.

    • The Charger: Interestingly, it uses a standard 20W USB-C adapter (included in the box)—the same one used for iPhones.

    • The Catch: There is no MagSafe, and charging is relatively slow; expect over an hour for a full refill.

    The Verdict

The MacBook Neo is a game-changer for students and young professionals. It swaps “vanity” specs like touchscreens for reliable basics: a stellar build, a clean OS, and a battery that actually lasts a full day.

Final Word: If your budget is capped at Rs 70,000 and you don’t need a Windows-specific enterprise tool, this is the best value-for-money laptop on the market today.

    Key Specifications at a Glance:

    • Price: Rs 69,900 (256GB) / Rs 79,900 (512GB + Touch ID)

    • Weight: 1.2 kg

    • Ports: 2x USB-C 2.0, 3.5mm Headphone Jack

    • Battery: ~10 Hours

    • Colors: Four distinct matte finishes
