At the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, Infosys co-founder and UIDAI architect Nandan Nilekani unveiled three groundbreaking tokenisation pilots designed to bring transparency, regulation, and practical utility to digital assets. Built on a unified, interoperable open architecture, these use cases target real-world economic sectors to demonstrate how tokenisation can scale safely within regulatory frameworks.
-
Dairy Attribute Tokenisation (Tamil Nadu): This pilot tokenises a cow’s core identity, health records, ownership, and other attributes. Farmers can present this tamper-proof digital token to multiple lenders to secure credit, decentralising financing options beyond a single institution.
-
Portable Warehouse Receipts (Agri-Commodities): Developed in collaboration with platforms like Arya.ag (utilizing blockchain infrastructure such as Avalanche), this pilot tokenises stored grains, rice, and wheat. The receipts securely capture quality, quantity, and insurance data, allowing farmers to use inventory as liquid collateral and shop around for the best loan rates.
-
Asset Securitisation Marketplace: This framework establishes a structured marketplace for asset securitisation. By deploying standardised, interoperable documentation and smart contracts, it brings transparency and efficiency to a historically fragmented ecosystem.
Nilekani emphasized that while regulators often harbor concerns over unbacked cryptocurrencies, safe tokenisation of real-world regulated assets can unlock immense economic value. He noted that combining this open infrastructure with emerging advancements like agentic AI will help drive transaction volume and build the systemic scale needed for mainstream adoption.
