The Roy family, promoters of the Peerless Group, have emerged victorious in a grueling three-decade legal battle for control of the 94-year-old financial and business conglomerate following a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court.
The apex court’s verdict brings closure to a long-standing corporate governance and ownership dispute over the iconic Kolkata-headquartered institution. Peerless General Finance and Investment Co., established in 1932, is one of India’s oldest residuary non-banking companies (RNBCs) and has historically operated across diverse sectors including financial services, healthcare, hospitality, and real estate.
The Supreme Court ruling clears the path for the Roy family to cement undisputed administrative control over the sprawling legacy conglomerate, ending years of boardroom uncertainty and paving the way for a fresh strategic chapter for the group.
