Wall Street Stays Dark: US Stock Markets Closed Today for Memorial Day 2026

If you are looking to place trades or track stock movements on Wall Street today, you will have to wait. The U.S. stock markets are completely closed today, Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day.

This federal holiday is dedicated to mourning and honoring deceased American military service personnel, and Wall Street traditionally observes a full operational shutdown.

What to Expect Across Markets Today

    • S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite: Both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq Stock Market are staying shut for the entire session. No regular trading hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET) or extended-hours electronic sessions are operational.

    • The Bond Market: Fixed-income trading desk doors are closed as well. Following the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) guidelines, the U.S. bond market had already executed a shortened session on Friday, May 22, winding down early at 2:00 p.m. ET to usher in the long holiday weekend.

    • Banking and Federal Institutions: Because Memorial Day is a recognized federal holiday, most commercial banking networks, non-essential federal government operations, and the U.S. Postal Service are also closed alongside the financial markets.

    When Will Trading Resume?

Normal financial market operations will pick up right where they left off on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, starting at the traditional opening bell of 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time (7:00 p.m. IST).

Traders will return to a heavy corporate slate, as Wall Street looks to sustain its May rally while digesting recent macroeconomic changes under new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and tracking volatile Brent crude global price movements.

The next scheduled holiday closure for the U.S. equity markets will be Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of Juneteenth.
