Google is rolling out a new authentication and recovery option that lets users log into their accounts using a short video selfie. Joining passwords, passkeys, and recovery contacts, this feature gives users a biometric fallback when they forget their credentials or lose access to their primary devices.

    How Video Selfie Sign-In Works

When enabling the feature, users perform guided head movements in front of their front-facing camera (on mobile, tablet, or PC) to capture multiple angles of their face.

    1. Setup: The initial video creates an encrypted reference baseline tied to the Google Account.

    2. Verification: When logging in or recovering an account, users record a brief new clip with on-screen prompts.

    3. Authentication: Google matches the new recording against the saved baseline to grant access.

Anti-Spoofing & Privacy: To prevent impersonation via static photos or AI deepfakes, the feature uses liveness checks—such as requiring dynamic head movements—alongside Google’s existing fraud detection algorithms. Reference videos are encrypted at rest, used exclusively for sign-in, and can be permanently deleted by the user at any time.

    Step-by-Step Guides

1.How to Enable Video Selfie Sign-In:Requires device camera.

    1. Sign in to your Google Account on mobile or desktop.

    2. Navigate to Security & sign-in.

    3. Under How you sign in to Google, select Selfie video.

    4. Click Continue on the setup page and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the head movement scan.

2.How to Delete Saved Selfie Data:Can be done at any time.

    1. Log into your Google Account settings.

    2. Head to the Selfie video page.

    3. Click Delete next to the saved video file to wipe it from Google’s servers.
