European equities are on track for their most robust profit expansion in nearly three years, driven by a massive rebound in the energy sector and improving fundamentals across basic materials. According to updated LSEG I/B/E/S data reported by Reuters, second-quarter aggregate earnings for the benchmark STOXX 600 index are projected to rise 22.4% year-over-year—marking the fastest pace of corporate growth since Q3 2022.

    Key Highlights & Earnings Breakdown

    • Broad-Based Profit Resurgence: Based on results from 236 reporting companies and updated analyst forecasts, European earnings expectations have steadily expanded as the reporting season has progressed.

    • Strong Performance Beyond Oil & Gas: While skyrocketing energy profits remain the primary catalyst, non-energy firms are showing underlying strength. STOXX 600 companies excluding energy are expected to grow earnings by 11.5%—more than double the 5.5% growth estimated in early July.

    • Fastest Revenue Growth in 16 Quarters: Second-quarter revenue expectations for the index have risen to 12.6% year-over-year (up from 11.7% a week prior), putting European sales expansion on track for its strongest quarterly performance in four years.
