Xiaomi Brings Smart Home Appliances to India Under ‘Mijia’: What You Need to Know

While Indian consumers primarily know Xiaomi for smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and smaller personal tech (like air purifiers and trimmers), the company operates as a broad lifestyle and consumer durables brand in its home market of China.

Now, Xiaomi is officially bringing its large home appliances and lifestyle products to India. However, instead of launching them directly under its primary phone branding, Xiaomi is introducing a dedicated sub-brand strategy.

    1. Enter “Mijia”: Xiaomi’s New Home & Lifestyle Sub-Brand

On August 7, 2026, Xiaomi officially announced the debut of Mijia by Xiaomi in India. Translating literally to “Mi Home”, Mijia becomes the fourth brand in Xiaomi India’s portfolio, joining Xiaomi (flagships), REDMI (volume devices), and POCO (online-first tech).

    • The Shift in Strategy: Unlike smartphones carried in a pocket or bag, Mijia is Xiaomi’s first dedicated brand built entirely around the household.

    • Product Rollout: The lineup will start with next-generation smart air purifiers later this quarter, before expanding into large home appliances (such as smart refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners).

    2. The Core Strategy: “Human × Car × Home”

This rollout directly supports Xiaomi’s Human × Car × Home global framework introduced in late 2023:

    • Ecosystem Connectivity: Powered by Xiaomi HyperOS, Mijia appliances are designed to communicate seamlessly with Xiaomi smartphones, wearables, and displays rather than operating as standalone “dumb” appliances.

    • Unified Control: Users can manage their entire home environment via the Mi Home app, creating an integrated smart ecosystem rather than isolated tech purchases.

    3. Market Competition & Outlook

    Strategic Area Details
Established Competition Enters direct competition with legacy home appliance giants in India, including Samsung, LG, and Haier.
Retail Reach Leverages Xiaomi’s existing network of 400+ exclusive retail stores and online channels across India.
Value Proposition Aims to maintain competitive pricing while differentiating through smart feature integration and software connectivity.

By shifting from sporadic single-product releases to a structured, dedicated home brand, Xiaomi aims to turn its massive smartphone user base into a connected household ecosystem across India.
