The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has officially notified the Foreign Assets of Small Taxpayers – Disclosure Scheme (FAST-DS) Rules, 2026. Enacted under Chapter IV of the Finance Act, 2026, the one-time voluntary disclosure mechanism goes into effect tomorrow, offering eligible taxpayers a compliance window to declare undisclosed foreign income, assets, or undeclared overseas holdings by paying a specified tax or fee.

    Key Scheme Details

    • Effective Date & Deadline: The scheme opens tomorrow and accepts declarations through December 31, 2026. No declarations will be accepted after the cutoff.

    • Scope & Purpose: Formulated as a one-time opportunity for small taxpayers to regularize non-reported overseas bank accounts, investments, or foreign assets without facing long-term litigation or harsh penal measures under the Black Money Act.

    • CBDT FAQs Released: To streamline implementation and clarify compliance procedures, the Income Tax Department published a comprehensive FAQ document breaking down eligibility criteria, valuation rules, tax payment deadlines, and filing procedures.
