Indian IT services leader Infosys has confirmed that Lax Gopisetty, Chief Executive Officer of its US-based subsidiary Infosys Public Services (IPS), is currently untraceable in the wake of severe flash floods that have devastated parts of Nepal and the Tibet autonomous region.

Gopisetty was visiting the Himalayan nation in a personal capacity when the disaster struck. In an official statement, the Bengaluru-headquartered firm expressed deep concern and assured that it is taking active steps to locate him.

“We can confirm that our colleague Lax Gopisetty, who was visiting the region in a personal capacity, is currently not reachable. We remain in close communication with the family and are providing all necessary support during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with Lax and all those affected by this tragedy.”

The company added that it is working alongside government bodies and ground agencies to gather intelligence and re-establish communication with Gopisetty.

Profile: Three Decades of IT Leadership

Lax Gopisetty serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Infosys Public Services (IPS), an entity dedicated to delivering digital transformation, cloud integration, and IT infrastructure modernization to public sector and government clients across the United States and Canada.

    • Infosys Tenure: Prior to his appointment as CEO, Gopisetty served as Global Vice President and Head of Business Applications and Digital Workspace Services, expanding the company’s enterprise reach across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

    • Prior Background: With over 30 years in the technology consulting domain, he previously served as Managing Director at Accenture, where he headed the North American Health and Public Services practice. He has also held key executive roles at BearingPoint, IBM, PwC, and HCL.

    Disaster Worsens Along Nepal-Tibet Border

The flash floods, triggered by a glacial collapse and subsequent debris flow along the Bhote Koshi river system, have escalated into one of the region’s deadliest natural calamities in over a decade.

According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA):

    • Casualties & Missing: The confirmed death toll has climbed to 626, with 2,426 individuals still reported missing across the affected river basins.

    • Impact on Indian Nationals: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that at least 320 Indian citizens remain untraceable, while another 400 Indian pilgrims stranded on the Tibetan side of the border are currently safe and awaiting evacuation.

    • Economic Toll: Initial estimates indicate rebuilding critical infrastructure, power networks, and damaged highways across the mountain corridors will require at least $4 billion.
