Milky Mist Secures ₹482 Crore in Temasek-Led Pre-IPO Funding

Milky Mist Dairy Food Ltd, a prominent player in the Indian value-added dairy sector, has successfully raised approximately ₹482 crore in a pre-IPO funding round. The round was anchored by Jongsong Investments, a subsidiary of the Singaporean sovereign wealth fund Temasek.

This significant capital infusion serves as a major institutional endorsement for the Erode-based company as it prepares for its debut on the public markets.

    Breakdown of the Fundraise

The funding was structured through a combination of fresh capital and the sale of existing shares:

    • Primary Infusion (₹357 Crore): Fresh capital flowing directly into the company to fuel growth.

      • Equity Shares: 543,789 shares issued at ₹139.76 each (approx. ₹7.6 crore).

      • CCPS: 25,00,000 Compulsorily Convertible Preference Shares issued at the same price (approx. ₹349.4 crore). These will convert to equity at a 1:1 ratio before the IPO.

    • Secondary Sale (₹125 Crore): Promoters Sathishkumar T and Anitha S sold roughly 8.9 million shares to the investors.

    Strategic Focus: Value-Added Dairy

Unlike traditional dairy companies focused solely on liquid milk, Milky Mist has built its brand around high-margin, value-added products. Their portfolio spans the entire culinary day, including:

    • Core Dairy: Cheese, butter, ghee, and yogurt.

    • Convenience & Dessert: Ice cream, chocolates, and UHT products.

    • Emerging Segments: Frozen foods, Ready-to-Eat (RTE), and Ready-to-Cook (RTC) items.

    • Brand Portfolio: Operates under the main ‘Milky Mist’ brand, alongside sub-brands like SmartChef, Capella, and newly acquired brands Briyas and Asal.

    Operational Excellence

The company’s competitive edge lies in its fully automated mega-facility located in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu. This plant is designed for high throughput and consistent quality, supported by an integrated logistics model that ensures fresh delivery across its distribution network.

What This Means for the IPO

The entry of a high-profile investor like Temasek typically signals strong confidence in a company’s corporate governance and growth trajectory. For Milky Mist, this pre-IPO round not only provides the “war chest” needed for expansion but also helps set a benchmark valuation as it moves toward its official listing.
