Global indoor fitness race operator Hyrox expects India to become one of its top three global markets alongside the U.S. and China within the next five years, founder and CEO Christian Toetzke told The Economic Times.

The Germany-headquartered company is aggressively expanding into India to capitalize on the country’s large youth demographic, rising fitness awareness, and growing interest in organized functional fitness competitions.

    Growth Projections & Revenue Goals

    • Global Scale: Hyrox generated approximately €135 million in revenue in 2025 across ~870,000 participants. It projects global revenue to approach €300 million in 2026 as total participants reach 2 million.

    • India Potential: India currently generates €4 million to €5 million annually, but Toetzke projects the Indian market will eventually cross €100 million in annual revenue.

    • Rapid Participation Growth: Participation in Hyrox’s flagship Mumbai event is expected to surge to 15,000 in September 2026, up dramatically from 1,600 during its Indian debut ~16 months ago. Participants from over 453 cities and towns have already competed.

    Expansion Strategy & Investment

    • Capital Deployment: Hyrox plans to invest seven-figure sums to scale events, forge gym affiliations, enhance tech infrastructure, and explore permanent facility locations in India.

    • City Expansion: Currently holding events in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Hyrox has announced expansion into Ahmedabad and Noida.

    • Institutional Backing: Private equity firm L Catterton (backed by LVMH and the Arnault family office) is leading a deal to acquire stake from exiting shareholders Wanda Group and Infront Sports & Media, providing Hyrox fresh capital for global expansion.

    Key Industry Drivers & Challenges

    • Market Tailwinds: According to a Deloitte India & HFA report, Indian fitness facility memberships are projected to almost double from 12.3 million in 2024 to 23.2 million by 2030, pushing the market size to ₹37,700 crore ($4.5B+).

    • Infrastructure Bottlenecks: Growth faces challenges from a local shortage of large indoor venues—Hyrox races require spaces of at least 13,500 square meters—alongside a need for better-equipped partner gyms and certified trainers.
