China and Hong Kong Stocks Slide as Global Bond Rout and Oil Surge Batter Investor Sentiment

Chinese and Hong Kong equities retreated tracking a wave of risk aversion across global markets, driven by an intensified worldwide bond selloff and a sharp surge in crude oil prices.

The downward pressure rippled across Asian trading desks following steep overnight losses on Wall Street. Markets are increasingly unnerved by the confluence of surging energy costs and soaring government bond yields, which have combined to amplify mounting fears over persistent inflation and prolonged high interest rates.

Geopolitical flare-ups in the Middle East have pushed crude prices sharply higher, directly threatening import-heavy economies and inflating global macro risks. Concurrently, a severe global bond rout has sent sovereign borrowing costs soaring, draining liquidity from risk-on assets and heavily weighing on tech counters and broader regional indices.

As traders look ahead to crucial upcoming macroeconomic data releases and central bank policy meetings, market sentiment remains fragile, with institutional investors adopting a cautious stance amid heightened cross-asset volatility.
