Global Equity Funds Secure $34.76 Billion in Inflows for the Second Consecutive Week Driven by AI Optimism

Global equity markets continue to demonstrate resilience despite mounting bond market pressures, with global equity funds drawing $34.76 billion in net inflows during the week ending September 30. This marks the second straight week of positive net allocations, fueled heavily by enduring optimism surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and softer-than-expected U.S. inflation data.

    Key Highlights from the Data

    • Regional Breakdown: Investor demand was broad-based across major developed markets. U.S. equity funds led the charge, securing $20.6 billion in net purchases for a second consecutive week. Meanwhile, European equity funds and Asian equity funds brought in $6.19 billion and $6.16 billion, respectively.

    • Emerging Markets Lag: In contrast to the broader inflows, emerging-market equity funds suffered net outflows of $1.37 billion, extending their losing streak to a fourth consecutive week.

    • Sector Shifts: Despite overall optimism, sectoral funds experienced net weekly outflows of $919.7 million. Notably, tech-focused funds saw profit-taking with withdrawals hitting $2.63 billion following a three-week buying streak. Conversely, investors rotated capital into financial funds ($1.13 billion) and utility funds ($468 million).

    What’s Fueling the Optimism?

The persistent appetite for equities is largely underpinned by structural growth narratives in AI spending. Market sentiment received a strong boost after major semiconductor and memory chip forecasts signaled robust, unyielding demand for AI hardware applications. Furthermore, a softer macroeconomic print on U.S. inflation helped temper immediate monetary tightening fears, giving investors more confidence to back risk assets even as global bond yields experience heightened volatility.

    The Wider Asset Picture

While equity funds enjoyed a multi-billion dollar windfall, fixed-income vehicles faced broad liquidations. Global bond funds recorded net withdrawals of $1.75 billion as rising sovereign yields across major economies imposed tighter fiscal discipline and kept investors on edge.

As fourth-quarter trading begins, the interplay between surging AI-driven corporate earnings and stubborn bond market volatility will likely dictate whether these equity inflows can maintain their momentum.
