In a major shift in capital allocation, Berkshire Hathaway significantly expanded its position in Alphabet Inc. during Q2 2026, boosting its holdings by 83%. The move catapults Google and YouTube’s parent company to Berkshire’s third-largest public equity holding, trailing only Apple and American Express.

    Key Highlights from the Disclosure

    • Significant Position Expansion: Berkshire increased its Alphabet stake from 57.8 million shares to nearly 106 million shares as of June 30, 2026, valued at approximately $37.8 billion. This includes a $10 billion direct allocation in June designated to support Alphabet’s AI infrastructure development.

    • End of Net Selling Streak: Berkshire bought $23.5 billion in equities while selling $3.7 billion during Q2 2026, breaking a 14-quarter stretch as a net seller of stocks.

    • Cash Pile Reduction: Total cash reserves fell from $380.2 billion (Q1 2026) to $364.7 billion, driven by net stock purchases and $4.5 billion in share repurchases.

    • Buffett’s Conviction: Chairman Warren Buffett confirmed that initiating the Alphabet investment—which began in Q3 2025—was his direct initiative, developed in consultation with CEO Greg Abel.
