European Markets Hit All-Time High: STOXX 600 Closes Week at Record 660.25

European equities extended their landmark rally on Friday, August 7, 2026, as the pan-European STOXX 600 index notched its fourth consecutive record high and capped a fourth straight week of gains. A combination of robust Q2 corporate earnings, a surge in tech shares, and softer-than-expected U.S. labor market data fueled investor risk appetite across the continent.

The index rose 0.3% to close at 660.25 points.

    Primary Market Drivers

    1. Robust Q2 Corporate Earnings

European corporate fundamentals provided the heavy lifting throughout the week. Data compiled by LSEG indicates that STOXX 600 companies are projected to post Q2 earnings growth exceeding 22% year-over-year—marking the strongest quarterly growth performance since Q3 2022.

    2. Technology & Healthcare Outperformance

    • Tech Sector (+1.9%): Technology stocks led the index’s weekly performance, tracking gains from Wall Street. Enterprise software giant SAP gained nearly 3% to 4%, while chipmakers and industrial tech suppliers like Infineon and Siemens added around 3%.

    • Healthcare & Pharma: Sector bellwethers saw strong buying following optimistic guidance. Danish biotech Genmab surged 6.5% after raising its full-year outlook on strong H1 revenues, while Novo Nordisk gained 3.9%.

    3. Soft U.S. Jobs Data Relieves Rate Concerns

Sentiment received an extra late-week boost after the U.S. Nonfarm Payrolls report showed an unexpected softening in the U.S. labor market. The weak job numbers eased concerns about aggressive interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve in September, sparking a global equity relief rally.

    Key Stock Movers & Highlights

Company Ticker / Sector Weekly Highlight Stock Performance
Kingspan Group Building Materials Raised full-year profit guidance on strong demand +17.8%
Genmab Biotechnology Boosted H1 revenues and upgraded FY2026 outlook +6.5%
SAP SE Software / Tech Sustained momentum in enterprise cloud and AI adoption +3.0%
Munich Re / Allianz Insurance Faced profit-taking despite solid Q2 net income figures -1.5% to -2.7%

    Analyst Perspective & Market Outlook

“I don’t think there’s one single reason behind this rally in European markets—it’s a confluence of solid fundamentals. All the U.S. payroll numbers did was give an already strong momentum an extra boost.”

    — Michael Hewson, Senior Market Analyst at iForex

    • Elevated Valuations Demand Selectivity: While macro strategists note that European credit and equity fundamentals remain remarkably healthy, institutional investors caution that elevated valuation multiples leave less margin for error in upcoming quarterly reports.

    • Broad Regional Gains: The optimism spilled into national benchmarks across Europe, with Germany’s DAX (+0.69%), France’s CAC 40, and the UK’s FTSE 100 (+0.31%) all finishing the week in positive territory.
