The Return of the 6-Second Loop: Divine Revives the Spirit of Vine

Vine is back in spirit with Divine, a new short-form video platform designed to revive the era of short, looping, human-made content. Created by early Twitter employee Rabble and backed financially by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, the app offers an alternative to modern, AI-heavy social feeds.

    Key Features & Nostalgia

    • Strict AI Ban: To protect human creativity and prevent feed clutter, Divine explicitly bans AI-generated content using automated detection methods.

    • Massive Archive: Users gain access to an archive of over 2 million original, vintage Vine posts alongside newly created content.

    • Algorithm Transparency: The app offers customizable feeds (e.g., animals, style, trending) and details how its “For You” algorithm selects content.

    • Decentralized Network: Built on decentralized digital infrastructure similar to Bluesky and Mastodon, Divine allows users to own their digital identities and move their content across compatible platforms.

Why Divine Matters Now The original Vine was shut down by Twitter in 2017 after struggling to build a viable business model while competing against platforms like Instagram. Divine aims to learn from those challenges while addressing a growing demand for authentic, human-centric media. Launching with around 100,000 users, the app is betting that audiences are ready to embrace user-controlled, decentralized, and strictly human-created internet culture once again.
