“Cat is Out of the Bag”: Mamata Banerjee Slams EC Over BJP Seal Controversy

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission (EC) Tuesday, alleging that the poll watchdog is being controlled by the BJP. The controversy erupted after an official EC communication was reportedly found carrying a stamp from the BJP’s Kerala unit.

Speaking at the Kolkata airport before departing for her North Bengal campaign trail, Banerjee dismissed claims that the incident was a “human error.”

    Key Highlights of the Allegations:

    • Proof of Control: Banerjee argued that the presence of a party seal on a regulatory document “proves beyond doubt” that the BJP is directing the EC’s actions.
    • Conspiracy vs. Error: The Chief Minister rejected the EC’s explanation of a clerical mistake, labeling it a “political conspiracy” instead.
    • Call for Opposition Unity: She urged all political parties—regardless of their Left or Right ideologies—to unite against what she described as an attempt to impose one-party rule in India.
    • Democratic Integrity: The TMC supremo stated that the incident places a “serious question mark” on the impartiality of the upcoming elections.

Banerjee’s remarks set a high-voltage tone for her campaign in Bagdogra, as she called on the opposition to “save democracy” and ensure the polls remain free and fair.
